Republican U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul and Democratic nominee Jack Conway remain within single digits of each other as Paul holds a nearly five-point lead, the latest cn|2 Poll found. Asked which candidate they would support if the Nov. 2 election were held today, 42.1% of likely voters favored Paul, while 37.4% would vote for Conway. The poll surveyed 802 likely voters between Aug. 30 and Sept. 1. The poll shows a four-point dip for Conway, who led Paul by a half of a point in the last statewide cn|2 Poll, taken Aug 16-18. Gov. Steve Beshear and his running mate Jerry Abramson would have a 7-point advantage over the newly-announced Republican ticket of David Williams and Richie Farmer in next year’s governor’s race, the new cn|2 Poll shows. But the governor failed to crack the key 50% threshold in any question regarding next year’s election. Shelby County Judge-Executive Rob Rothenburger told cn|2 Politics on Thursday that he filed his early paperwork to begin running for the Republican nomination for commissioner of agriculture next year. That position is being vacated by Richie Farmer, the former University of Kentucky basketball player who has held the position since 2004 and is term-limited. Democratic candidate for Louisville Greg Fischer has received the endorsement of 29 different labor unions in Louisville, according to news release sent out by his campaign. The unions represent workers from different industries, including the United Auto Workers and International Brotherhood of Electric Workers and Pipefitters. Fischer and representatives from the unions announced the endorsement Wednesday morning in front of IBEW's offices on Preston Highway.
